Description
Before you say "no chance in hell Ottawa does that," hear me out.

Say Ottawa wholly embraces the sell mentality going into this deadline. Brassard, gone. Pageau, gone. Hoffman...maybe. Either way, it starts to look like a shell of a team. Factor in Melynk's internal salary cap and you have to think that Karlsson would look long and hard at signing elsewhere once he's a UFA. So say Dorion looks to sell him as well. Now, look to the packages that teams vying for him can offer. Most (if not all) of them are playoff teams that will want him this year (two rounds of playoffs - ideally) and any of those 1st rounders they'll be giving up will be in the 25-31 range. You'd get a decent current NHL player and a future NHL player as well, but it could be better.

Avs can offer all that and more. Barrie fills the hole that Karlsson leaves. Ottawa's 2018/2019 pick is theirs again, and will likely be a lottery pick this year or next, depending on the TDL. Bigras (could be Connor Timmins), future NHL defender. Avs throw in Nashville's 2nd this year, and maybe another pick if he resigns.

I feel like the value is there. Thoughts?

My guess OTT would ask for Makar before anything else.

Definitely, but the Avs response would be the same as the Sens response when we asked for Chabot in the Duchene trade.
