Sure Detroit retains on both Ericsson and Nyquist And FWIW Nyquist is a 40+ per season LW way more then his worth and yet we take on that garbage Orpik contract. Not a chance

I'm actually a Wings fan. We'll have a lot of cap space next offseason. Orpik's contract is one year shorter than Ericsson's. Hronek and Cholo will take Kronwall's and Orpik's roster spots when their contracts expire. Plus I just really want Ericsson off the team. Nyquist is in his final year and will be on the trade market all year, (he's worth about a second and third round pick). Wings get a young back up with a lot of promise who can challenge Howard. This trade is about getting the 1b goalie we need and making roster spots for Hicketts and Rasmussen.

Ericsson has been pretty good this season actually. I would rather just wait another year and sign a good goalie in free agency. You can get a 1st or 2nd round pick for Nyqust at the trade deadline.
Eli liked this.

Nyquist is worth about a second and third round pick. A 2nd + PG is about what he's worth. Just a standard expiring contract deal. Orpik has one year left, Riggy has two left. Orpik retires after his contract is over and our younger Dmen take his roster spot next season.
