Description
This is what I think the lines will look like in a few years. Matthews gets that big contract he deserves at 11mil/year. Marner and Nylander both get 7 mil/year. I think Marner is more skilled than Nylander but I don't think the salary will be different between the two. Kapenen is lucky in that his contract expires next year so he has another year to prove how good he can be and I thin 3 mil/year is fair for him as a bridge contract. Johnsson lucks out because his contract ends this year and right now he hasn't shown me more potential that 2 mil/year so I gave him slightly below for 3 years as a bridge. I also gave doughty 11 mil/year because he would probably get that in the open market. That leaves about 3.7 million in cap space and with Marleau coming off the following year and an increase of maybe 3 million in the cap, along with expiring contracts of Liljegren, Dermott, Bracco, Brown, Grundstrom and Timashov, it would give us roughly 19 million to resign our RFAs and get a top 9 LW in 2020-2021.

Liljegren- 2.5-3.5mil/4 years
Dermott- 3-4 mil/ 5 year
Brown- 3 mil/ 3 years
Grundstrom,Timashov,Bracco-900 k/ 2 years
total- 11.5 mil-13.5 mil in resigning
Leaves 5.5 million-7.5 million in cap space for a LW

no offense, but i dont see doughty leaving LA. with the new management and coaching, and vilardi and clague coming up, la will be good. kopitar isn't slowing down either, and quick is still in his prime. but if he does sign else where, pretty sure it'll be for more money, esp if its in canada.

Hey Folks.

This is no reflection on shab101 because I LOVE the line up he assembled here but just an honest question for all of you from a Leaf fan enjoying his holiday at his computer.

Kadri has scored 30+ goals a year for 2 years now with no sign of slowing down all the while playing against the NHL best lines. CONTRACT: $4.5 x 6 years $2 MIL bonus paid every July 1st
Kadri has scored 18 goals in only 48 games coming off his ELC!!!!. Bridge CONTRACT: $2.9 x 2 years $2 MIL bonus paid every July 1st

Kucherov will have scored 40+ goals a year for 2 years now and most expectedly 100+ points this year with no sign of slowing down all the while playing against the NHL best lines. Bridge CONTRACT: $4.767 x 3 years

Pastrnak has scored 30+ goals a year for 2 years now with no sign of slowing down all the while playing against the NHL best lines. CONTRACT: $6.7 x 6 years

Brown with 20 goals signed an bridge deal of $2.1 MIL for 3 years.

Why in heaven's name is there so many here who feel that Nylander and Marner, who haven't won anything significant but have shown flashed of brilliance....inconsistently..., are deserving of such HUGE contracts coming off their ELCs?? It feels so much like the old Leaf management perspective where we paid our top defenceman top money even though he wasn't a top 20 dman in the league.

Compared to Pastrnak's 30+ goal seasons and Kucherov's 40+ goal seasons do you feel that Leaf players who have a hard time cracking 20 goals deserve MORE money than those guys?

Do you folks also defend Buffalo's contracts?? Edmonton's?? Even Detroit's over the last couple of years?? The best teams have the contracts I listed above. That's where I want the Leafs to be.
