I know when it comes to desicions lior making trade, signing it drafting players it's easy to judge those things when we see how they've panned out. BUT in Cherelli's case, it's amazing how he could've thought that Taylor freaking Hall for Larsson was going to make them better. Or how Griffin Reinhart was worth a 1st-round pick. All the free agent signings were never going to work out. Just image of they didn't sign Russel, Sekera or Lucic. They could be a front runner for Tavares. I don't blame him for the Eberle/Strome, had to do it because of his cap kerfuffle. Don't blame him for the Seth Jones trade either. A lot of people thought RNH would pan out. All that being said, I can't believe he ever got the Oilers GM job after trading away Kessel, Seguin, Wheeler and Hamilton while in Boston. Worst GM in the league and maybe all of North American sports.

Was RNH for Jones proposed at the time?

EDM wasn't gonna take Barzal with the pick they used to acquire Reinhart. At the time they needed D, I think maybe they would have taken Chabot or the goalie Samsonov.

Also regarding the Puljujarvi pick, the same thing is being said in Calgary about Bennett, "why didn't you take Ehlers, Nylander or Pastrnak" well that's because Bennett was ranked 1st or 2nd by many, just hasn't panned out.
