Description
A couple defense trades that take advantage of team's cap situations. Wild move Ennis' contract to open space for Dumba/Zucker extensions and get Minnesota boy Gardiner. Jets move Myers' cap and get back into the first round while adding a cheap NHL ready LHD. I think this vastly improves the Leafs overall while still making sense for the other teams involved.

Ennis is only under contract 1 more year at 4.6 million.

Buying him out and keeping Brodin is almost the same money as this trade.

As a leafs fan I would rather just not make these trades. I really don't think Brodin is that good, and I don't think Myers is worth a first... Maybe a prospect and later pick, not a first.

Fair. Prevents you from having to buy him out though, and there really isn't much loss going from Brodin to Gardiner at all. Just different styles of play, a little bit of a shakeup for Minny and Toronto changes direction on their backend.

Brodin is just a different style of player than Gardiner. More defensive and safer. I really think him with Zaitsev would open up Zaitsev to play a more offensive game and really thrive.

Myers has more than proven he has taken the next step this year. He has looked really good and has come into his own. That paired with him being a RHD and even if the value is a little high it will be worth it. #25 + 3rd pairing defenseman seems more than fair though.
