i think, amongst the five or six suitors, that the sharks and isles are the only ones that make any sense

I'll go a little further, when fans cringe about their player leaving via UFA. The player was free agent, he wasn't yours to lose.

I agree!

1. dallas sucks, and still would be far from a cup contender with tavares, not to mention seguin is due 8 digits for term next summer. would dallas want 25M in two players?)

2. Toronto would likely have to put tavares in place of marner or nylander. Not sure how big an upgrade that would be along with 4+M more on the cap and a quicker aging process. Makes little sense for them...

3. Boston has no cap space either. Theyd have to figure out how to move krejci or backes. Tough task as no team would want them for their prices, ages, and term. I cannot figure out how he fits there long term either.

4. Tampa has no cap space either. They have some 10M or so but Miller will eat up 5-6 of that at least. Not sure how theyd work it.

5. Vegas has the space and would be interesting for JT, but Im told they arent in the running.

6. NYI obviously makes sense with familiarity, the new coach, new GM etc. But then again, they arent a playoff team and havent been with JT for years. Does he want to risk another 8 years without tasting a real cup run?

*** The Sharks are the only team that has the pace short and long term, has a great crew already in place. Has competed basically every year for the cup, has great and kind fans, great weather and place to live (even if expensive), and a perfect #1 C role to fill. He will be important but not the savior of the franchise and will compete every year of his deal for the cup. And there is a loooong track record of top players resigning time and time again (pavs, PM, JT19, Burns, Pickles will all be sharks for well over a decade. Cooch is almost guaranteed to join that list.) Players who come LOVE it in SJ. There are no weaknesses in the sharks pitch that I can see aside from moving across the country.

*And this is different from stamkos because the lightning were good having made it to the conference final or more in the seasons leading up to stamkos resigning.

Still, I figure dougie needs to be ready for a trade for pacioretty, Orielly, or someone. I dont think hes gunna look to sign a secondary UFA like JVR, and I think we wants a center to avoid forcing hertl to the middle.

I meant they lose the bidding war (or pitch war). So then, "lose out on tavares"...
