Description
Unfortunately we are going to have to let some familiar faces go in order to sign Vrana to an extension next year. He will probably get a bridge deal similar to Burakovsky. So I would trade Burakovsky now because we probably won’t be able to afford him next year. Won’t be able to sign Beagle unless it’s a one year deal. Young kids are going to have to step up and play big minutes. I would definitely consider trading Niskanen or Holtby to free up cap space after next year.

Not a championship caliber team but a playoff team for sure.

Definitely keep Bura. Trade Holtby. Can't resign him and can't let him walk for nothing. Could get a great haul for him.

Also cap will be higher and Djoos won't cost that much most likely.

After trading Grubauer I find it extremely unlikely they would entertain trading Holtby. The cap will rise, and he will probably get a $2 million bump in AAV.

And it would be incredibly stupid to resign him. He'll be 30 at the time and will cost $8M for a declining goalie. If we didn't have Samsonov or Vanecek I can see resigning him but there's no reason with those 2 in the wings ready to go.

What's wrong with a 30 year old goalie? Take a look at the ages of Rinne(this year) and Tim Thomas winning the Vezina. Not to mention Brodeur and Hasek(No I'm not say Holtby is either of those two. If Holt's comes back to form after a down season last year I'd easily give him a 8 x 6. And giving priority to Bura over a Vezina winner and one of the best(stat wise) playoff goalies in recent history is really disgusting.

Sure some goalies have some outlier years where they're great post 30 but it isn't often. Paying Holtby $8M+ would be a some terrible asset management when you have THE best goalie prospect in the game ready to go. I'll take 26yo Bura at around $5M+ over 30yo Holtby at $8M+ everyday of the week. That's just being smart. I'm not saying Holtby will be terrible but he won't be $8M+ good anymore.
