Doughty is on the same 1 year deal that Panarin is. so don't come tell me that trade is fair in any sense of the word. It's clearly bogus. On top of it,the position you play has no meaning to your value on the ice.
You would always take McDavid over Karlsson.
Not because Karlsson isn't a good player or because center is more important, but because McDavid is the better player. Just like you would take Karlsson over someone like Johanson.

The same is true here. Panarin is the better player. So the whole "he's a franchise defense man" myth can just go to rest. Plenty of teams win cups with out franchise defense men. The pens did it two years ago. They don't have nearly the value people wrongly place on them. A really great winger though can have a huge impact. See Kane. Panarin right now is at that level. He's the better player between the two, and he will impact games more.
