Interesting idea, similar to the concept of the Leafs (or another team) signing Tavares to a one-year max contract. Obviously the $9 million dollar figure is way more that the annual cap hit he would get if he signs a regular longer term contract, but this year isn't really the cap issue year for Winnipeg, especially if they can move a heavy cap player like Myers, Kulikov, Little Perreault, etc. so the cap space isn't an issue. This may be appealling to Stastny from a logistics perspective as well. It would give him another year on a team that will most likely be a contender, and he won't have to pack up and move for the second time in about six months, so he could focus on hockey and would be looking to have a good season knowing that he would be an UFA the following summer. This would be a fun deal, but I still like the idea of trying to lock up a 2C long term, but one more thing that this trade does do is allow a full year of development for Roslovic. If he is able to play a 2nd or 3rd line role and begin producing at the rate that he is capable of, then the jets have center depth, and therefore no longer have the pressing need for another center. Ups and downs to this idea, but in the short term its a great plan, and could also be a good way to ensure strength down the road, indirectly. The trades and stuff all make sense too, although I would be surprised if Winnipeg got rid of Appleton without giving him a look at the NHL level
