Your entire concept is pretty solid, and is exactly what I hope we do with a couple tweaks.

We should not be in the business of paying Wheeler 8mill for 6 years. I love Wheeler, but he is undeniably the most overrated player on the Jets. He had a 91point season where 46 of those points came on the power play setting up three of the best shooters in the NHL. If we keep Wheeler, it will be for his leadership, and two-way play. In a lot of ways I would consider him to be an older Right Wing version of Ryan O'Reilly, with a slight offensive edge. (Keep in mind ROR does not have the luxury of playing with Scheifs.) ROR is considered overpaid at 7.5mill. Given that it is 2018 and the market has inflated, 7.5 is the absolute max we should pay Wheeler, and definitely not with that term. In a worst case-scenario, Scheifs becomes our new captain, Laine steps into 1RW and one of Vesa or Ehlers switches to 2RW, which really isn't that bad. Ideally I wouldn't mind 7x3-5 for Wheeler.

Also Tanev should not be playing on the third line. He is a decent 4th liner when he is on the ice with Lowry and is one of the empirically worst players in the NHL when Lowry is injured or not on the ice with him.

We can put Matty P, Petan, Copp, Vesalainen, or literally anyone that has shown they can hold on to the puck without being carried by a linemate at 3LW and let Tanev put up a decent stat-line with his amigo Lowry.

You haven't used Appleton on here, which I find a little odd, since he was the best player at dev camp a couple weeks ago. He definitely has a future as a 3RW.

All your evaluations seem to be the absolute max of what Chevy should be willing to pay, which is fine, but his track record has been getting RFA's to sign for their worth or less, so I'm cautiously more optimistic than that.

Every penny you save on over-evaluating any of our RFA's or Wheeler should go to the bonuses Vesa, and Samberg will make, and to making KC81's contract more respectable. If we came to Connor with that deal we would be manufacturing the Trouba level of drama in a player that reportedly has zero drama with us.
