Description
What the TB roster could look like if they acquire D Justin Faulk, and give their RFA's extensions.

Also, after the 2019-2020 season, you would not need to extend Faulk, as Cal Foote should be ready for a top four role, with Sergachev likely be ready for the top pair (if not already). If Dotchin or Foote cannot play the 3rd pair in the 19-20 season, then they can look at Stralman or Girardi as RD options for another year.

Additionally, you bridge Brayden Point to 3 years @ 5.5 AAV, while getting rid of Callahan to compensate for this. Trading Callahan shouldn't be impossible, but may be difficult with a M-NTC NMC (buyout always option, but not ideal).

You bridge Gourde to 3 years @ 4.75 AAV, provided he continues with his production this season, while getting rid of Killorn ideally (or Johnson).

This helps TB in the short-term, and they are still set for the long-term. They have over 20 Million in cap space after the 2019-2020 season, and while Sergachev and Vasilevsky should eat over half of that, they still have 10M to resign:

A backup goalie (<2M)
Cirelli (<2M)
Koekkoek (<1.5M) - Depends on progression
Dotchin (<1.5M) - Depends on progression

AT LEAST 3M (likely 7M if cap increases by 2 each year) to sign:

Conacher (~1.5M) - could walk, not the end of the world
Volkov (??? - < 1.5M)
Joseph (??? - < 1M)

Depth F/D (or use prospects from system).

Trades
1.
TBL
  1. Faulk, Justin
  2. 2019 6th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
This could be the move that puts T over the top for both the 18-19 and 19-20 seasons. This move should be made in the 2018 offseason. This move stacks your team's defence, while not jeopardizing the team's future (like a trade for EK would).
CAR
  1. Raddysh, Taylor
Additional Details:
2019 3rd Round Pick
2019 5th Round Pick

Carolina gets rid of the odd man out in Faulk, and they get a young, inexpensive forward who is a top prospect in the NHL. Both teams are trading from a position of strength, would work for both sides.
2.
TBL
  1. 2020 6th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Cap Dump for TB. They get a low pick in next year's draft, and the Rangers get their old captain back (good leadership for younger group), doesn't need top minutes, and they have plenty of cap space (with no problem spending to the limit).

Note: this implies that Callahan submits the NYR as one of his 16 teams he can be traded to.
NYR
  1. Callahan, Ryan
  2. 2020 4th round pick (TBL)
  3. 2021 6th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
2019 6th Round pick (CGY)
3.
TBL
  1. 2019 4th round pick (DAL)
  2. 2019 6th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
TB sheds some salary, while Dallas gets a top nine forward who can contribute offensively with ~40 pts, play almost every game, play solid defensively and give them needed forward depth. Dallas is close to being a contender, and they have low state taxes like TB, so it is possible Killorn waives his NMC to go there. Dallas is not giving up much here, and they can put some of their cap space to good use (assuming they do not get EK).

I like the explanation but that lineup is a lot of small guys. We lose size without Killorn maybe instead of Conacher pick up some depth veterans

Fair point, you do have Gourde who plays a physical game, as well as guys like Koekkoek and Dotchin who can throw the body. Plus guys like Bellows and Erne who play hard-nosed games. Another physcial player wouldn;t hurt however.
