Description
Isles need to thin out their forward "depth" before season starts, and plan to be good in 2 years. Leverage that cap space!!!

Each of these deals uses a comparable deal so I shouldn't be terribly off base with the values.

Rasmussen plays in juniors again this year, joining Wahlstrom, Dobson, Bellows, Wilde as top prospects.

This team isn't going to be very good, but is setting itself up nicely for 2020 and beyond.
Trades
1.
NYI
  1. Callahan, Ryan
  2. 2019 1st round pick (TBL)
  3. 2020 3rd round pick (TBL)
  4. 2020 5th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Did not include Kruger comp as Tampa would rather have the cap space for Point / Gourde extensions.
TBL
  1. Bernier, Steve
  2. Helgeson, Seth
  3. 2019 6th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Using Hossa ($5.25M) as a base, where ARZ acquired Hinostroza, Oesterle and 3rd/5th rounders for Kruger, AHL F and 2 non prospects. Comparables are Gourde and Koukkouk, and I'd rather get the 1st round pick.
2.
NYI
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (NSH)
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2021 1st round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Bailey gives good secondary scoring to a cup contender. 1st round pick is 3 years removed.
NSH
  1. Bailey, Josh ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Comp: Brayden Schenn trade for Lehtera, 2 1sts. Comparable $ ($5M) and term (4 yrs vs. 6 yrs). Retained $ and removing Lehtera from deal. Downgraded from 2 1sts to account for extra term and lesser skill from Bailey v. Schenn.
3.
NYI
  1. 2020 5th round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Torts seems like a grit and sandpaper guy.
CBJ
  1. Clutterbuck, Cal ($1,750,000 retained)
  2. 2020 6th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Using Nick Cousins deal as a comp (2 non-prospects and a 5th). Cousins had 3 years @ $1M remaining; retaining on clutter to get closer to that #. Reducing return to accommodate difference in skill level and salary.
4.
NYI
  1. Franzen, Johan
  2. Rasmussen, Michael
Additional Details:
DET needs to dump salary to resign Larkin
DET
  1. 2020 4th round pick (NYI)
  2. 2021 4th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Comparable is Bickell deal ($4M for 3 years) + Teuvo for 2nd & 3rd round picks. Rasmussen is Teuvo comp but less established, hence return is less.

Franzen on LTIR does not hurt wings, so why even make the trade. They can still sign Larkin and keep Rasmussen and put Franzen on LTIR.

I think it depends on how much you think Larkin is going to sign for. Franzen will only get a percentage of his salary knocked off against the cap. Plus, there are timing aspects if DET wants to make additional moves.

it does hurt them because you have to be under the cap before the season starts and cant place franzen on LTIR until the season starts.

Franzens entire salary comes off. It has for the past 3 years.

First and foremost, cbach, this post is amazing! I love the explanation on the trades. I love the value going back. Nothing is even questionable enough, like some people asking why do the cap dumb. This is truly, very well done man. There is nothing I would change, and best of all, this looks like a Leafs style rebuild. Which clearly works by the way, and you have Lou running it. If I was NYI I would literally look at this thread.
