I'm not a big fan of trading back-up goalies more than a month prior to the trade deadline. If a team's motivation to trade is desperation for a positional replacement, it's most likely to be at goaltender. And I'm also a little gun-shy due to the Devan Dubnyk and Martin Jones precedents. If you were getting a second for, let's say, Leivo and Pickard (and maybe a low pick), that would be different . . .

big issue for the Leafs is the need to trade one of the back ups, with 3 back ups on hand that will need to go through Waivers and all 3 would likely get claimed and then they get nothing in return. Returns may be small but more likely to happen and not have teams hold off and try to get them for free later.

Just curious why you are only signing Nylander for one year? If he got a bridge deal, I would think it would be for the two more Marleau years. It’s gonna be a bit of a challenge, regardless, to extend all of their 3 young star forwards.
