Description
EK isn't gonna get a huge piece in the return, and any 1st is gonna be late. So, go for quantity. Stone gives COL a driver for the 2nd line, which they need, and Duchene gives NJ an upgrade at either 1 or 2C. Franson and Shore both had solid underlying numbers and bad luck, so they could very well get flipped at the deadline for picks. Beyond that, play the kids and see what happens.

This Colorado trade would be poetic justice, especially if the Sens actually won the draft lottery.

Colorado REALLY needs help behind that first line. Realistically, outside of MacKinnon, they don't have any forwards who can drive a line in the top-6. Stone can carry that second line and allow them to keep Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen together more effectively. They probably don't give up the OTT 1st at the deadline, but I think OTT could get their 1st back if they get the deal done by the end of the offseason, especially if the Avs can get an extension done.

All I see is a first and a Prospect and the first is Col not Ott. Because realistically Stone isn’t worth a Top 3 Pick that could potentially end up being Hughes.

Stone was 12th among forwards in Goals Above Replacement/82 games last year with 18.08, tied with Nathan Mackinnon. 32nd among all players in Goals Above Average at 8.90, Despite only 58 gp and and a negative PPO score.
18 goals and 49 points at even strength in 58 games. Even with his scoring rates primed to regress, he's got a ton of offence, and he's coming off his 3rd straight year with a Corsi Rel over +5.

This chart shows the Sens offence with (left) and without (right) Stone. Red indicates more shooting, left indicates less. He drove offence and shot quality extremely well.
The odds of the OTT 1st being a contributor of that level next year are nil, and the odds of it being in the next 2/3 years is pretty much the same as the odds that it becomes either Hughes or Kakko, which are 50% at best for the Avs. The trade's worth it for COL.
