JT is on a full NMC so it’s a moot point. The value is close to fair but it would be a dirty move by Toronto.

I understand this is just to see if leafs fans would prefer Doughty to JT, so there's no point critiquing the trade people. Not a leafs fan. But I think this would be a win for Toronto. Doughty is a Norris winner and is viewed as a top 5 dman in the league. I don't think anyone views Tavares as a top 5 center in the league, many wouldn't even have him in the top 10. And franchise defensemen can usually play at the top of their game longer, so Doughty's less likely to drop off in his older years IMO. Doughty is a proven leader and has tons of playoff experience, not to mention a Norris trophy and 2 Stanley cup rings. And he's also a tad more consistent player than JT, he's one of the best dmen in the league pretty much every year. I think Doughty instead of Tavares makes the leafs a better team for the next 8 years. Just my opinion

I would keep Tavares, what would other UFA's think when they sign with the Leafs if we pull Tavares out months before signing him. Also, NMC

Stated by @mk458 , NMC and whatnot were not taken into consideration with this. Simply seeing what Leafs fans would say to having Doughty over Tavares.

Likewise. Toronto makes out on top if they were to swap IMO, as a defenceman of Doughty's caliber carries almost insurmountable value, thought there are those I've seen who would disagree..
