Description
Trading Lundqvist to a team that is lacking severely in goaltending and is close to a cup final if the pieces come together.
Trades
NYR
  1. Bennett, Sam
  2. 2019 1st round pick (CGY)
  3. 2020 3rd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Sam Bennett was drafted high and was thought to be a really high end prospect has not worked out that well for CGY yet, he gets a change of scenery and a fresh start to jump start his career and be the amazing player that Calgary thought he was going to be. The rangers get a play with a half decent floor and a super high ceiling back as well as some late 1st and 3rd rounders
CGY
  1. Lundqvist, Henrik ($4,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Half salary retained means that they get hank, who is still an elite goaltender, with a good defense in front of him, for really cheap and allows the flames to make a push for the cup.

Not enough for a franchise goaltender. A higher end player is required.

I would for sure agree with you 100% if this were 2 seasons ago no question but he is on the wrong side of 35 and i dont think a team is going to value him as high because of that reason.

i would agree with you in a normal scenario.. but if you want the rangers to pick up half the price tag it's gonna have to be a bit more.. rangers also have a glut of centers and don't really need more, yeah he can play wing but how many spooners/namestnikovs do you really need on one team. all three will produce the same, rangers will want higher end if they are getting rid of their franchise goaltender, even at 35+. Look at HoF goaltenders that played well past lundqvists age, Hasek (didn't get his first cup until age 37 and won his second at 43; broudeur played very well until his 40's, etc. Lundqvist is signed until he is 39-- and if the first two games have proven anything, it's that he is still among the elite, especially that game against nashville. Last season (his worst) can be considered an extreme as he was in for 12 games where over 40+ shots were taken-- you cannot perform well under that bombardment on a nightly basis

it doesnt matter whether or not he is really worth that or not, it matters what the market says his value is. The market will determine the value and it will say that his is higher than that
