This could help New Jersey rebuild and stay young. Allen had moments and months when he's better than Schneider, so it doen't necessarily cost New Jersey anything. Gives both goalies a change of scenes, with NJ getting some prospects for giving up the bigger name.

Cory doesn't need a change of scenery, except in the eyes of the moron section of our fan base.

My thought was not exactly that he "needs a change of scenery" But he is getting up there in age making 6 mil and is backing up Keith Kinkaid. So it seems like NJ would want to move him to get a lesser goalie to compliment Kinkaid that is younger and cheaper while getting a pick and another young player.

Each team could use a shake up. New Jersey has a much younger team and could be happy transitioning to Kinkaid as #1G. STL has no clear direction where to go unless they get moving quickly. Their defense and forwards are in their prime. Some experts picked them to win the Cup this season. They're 28th overall with no excuses. Trading some futures for a goalie could send a signal to their players that it's time to get to work? Or it could just do nothing at all for them, and New Jersey gets a free pick and a prospect, plus salary cap relief at backup goalie. Looks win-win to me.

Basically, this is in response to a conversation that started with St. Louis fans asking the price on Bobrovsky, Holtby, Price, and a bunch of other starting goalies on playoff teams, and being told it wasn't happening. NJ saying it doesn't need to make a change in net is the best response they're getting. Dallas and LA likely say the same thing, which keeps prices fairly low, but it's still a chance to add a pick and a prospect for about nothing, a year ahead of a potential lockout.

I was replying to Eli. Cory was awesome his first three years in NJ, and is the sole reason we don't have McJesus or Matthews. Two years ago he struggled. Last year, he was doing great until right after Christmas, then it was like someone flipped a switch and he forgot how to goaltend. He was also injured. Played the last three games of our playoff loss to Tampa like the Cory of old. He will be fine, and he is not a 6 million dollar backup. He's being eased in and will return to the starter's spot soon enough.
