No one trades for career AHLers, unless it is to free up 1 of the limited 50 pro contract slots. Sending Marincin to Carolina would cost the Leafs more than not including him.

Even with shipping out Nylander, we might need to lose one of Zaitsev or Gardiner on the backend to handle Matthews+Marner+Kapanen+Marleau next season, so it'd be best to keep Marincin on hand for next season

Well I think at this point my opinion of this trade is common knowledge. Pretty much anything that Carolina is going to offer will be an under payment. Pesce is getting about 40% more love than he should.

Yeah i agree its an underpayment but in reality Pesce's contract is very valuable and cap friendly. Even if this trade isn't equal, the leafs could potentially use the extra cap space saves to try and resign gardiner or go after other free agents + Marner & Matthews will get paid a lot

Too risky for a team thats contending for a cup, If they were in a transition like ottawa/montreal/vancouver i'd agree but they're not. Kapanen wont get overpaid, he has no leverage and hasn't exactly put up insane numbers to get that
