I agree that maybe the Leafs trade Nylander for cap space, so money can be spent elsewhere, but that is poor return for Leafs.

Nylander will not get traded this year, his agent made sure of that, by getting Nylanders contract front loaded which states he gets paid over 8 million this season. Also Nylander will be needed for the playoff push and than traded next summer. The help for this season's D-Corps comes from the Leafs adding a rental player for picks.
