Description
Tell me if I'm on point of on crack. Both are a distinct possibility. Price for Trouba may be higher, but assuming he indeed wants out of Winnipeg, the Jets would get a decent return for a player they wouldn't be resigning. STL needs to move Allen, and Dunn would be a fairly even swap with Jensen thrown in considering DET is assuming all of Allen's salary. ARI trade is a wild card. They're riddled with injuries and need help everywhere. Can't imagine they truly want to move Keller, but Nyquist is a very similar player production wise and the rest of the package could be tempting for a GM with a banged-up team that needs some NHL-tested depth.

Can't see Arizona entertaining that offer.
Essentially moving half a year of Nyquist and a 2nd for Keller who is under control for next few years.

Hronek for Trouba is a start but would need more than Vanek to get it done.

Arizona wouldn't trade Keller.

That package for Trouba isn't enough IMO. Hronek is a decent prospect but Vanek is pretty bad these days. Trouba is a top pairing defenseman so Detroit would have to give up a good amount to get him. I think it's smarter to just wait until he's an UFA since he has allegedly expressed interest in playing for Detroit.

I think STL is probably not looking to contend this year so I guess I don't see them making a move for a goalie who only has a year on their deal, even if Howard is a solid starter.

Yeah, the ARI trade would be tough to pull off. I think ARI would part with him for the right price, but it would probably be steep. And as arousedcat pointed out, would probably be smarter to just wait it out and see Trouba his the open market.

That's a sound assessment for Trouba, assuming the scuttlebutt is true.

As for STL, the fanbase is tired of Allen and I'd argue they still think they have a shot with some upgraded goaltending. Howard is probably the best value on the market right now for a plug/play starter even if his deal is up this year. As for how that would work out with Detroit, we could alternate between Allen/Bernier and see if either is has any tread on the tires. If they do, great, if not, sit em/send em down. And if both suck, there's always a chance Howard would resign.

Fair enough! I just think there's a lot more to St. Louis' problems than goaltending... With the fight at practice, multiple apologies from Tarasenko to the fans, inability to win games, and just overall sh*tshow of a season I don't think an upgrade in net will make them a contender, but hey I'm just a guy speculating over here. Maybe their FO believes all they need is a goaltender and if that's the case I could certainly see them making a move like this.
