Why are Kings trading 2nd along Muzzin and Kovalchuk for AHLer Dman, winger demanding trade and 5th? If there is someone adding is Montreal and massively adding. Kovalchuk is not a cap dump, Alzner is.

Kings reject. They are one of the worst teams in the league, they don't need to get rid of cap. Also they are getting back almost no value and are getting rid of a top 6 forward and a top 4 defensemen.

Jesus this is terrible. Your proposal is so one-sided it's not even funny. You expect to drop a bad contract while bringing back a top-pairing defenseman, a top-six winger, and upgrading your draft pick?

Kings will trade you Phaneuf for Alzner, straight up. Montreal gets to get a bad contract off the books a season earlier, but has to take on a higher cap hit that can't be demoted to the AHL. They're not a cap team right now, so that's not a problem for them.

Kings get a contract that is $600k cheaper, but is also demotable to the AHL. This allows them to clear a roster spot for some of their good young defensemen while clearing nearly $2M off their cap, but they have to carry it for an extra year.
