Description
With a few big contracts needing ink in the next few years, finding a way to dump Nathan Hortons Contract is a way the leafs can maneuver themselves into a situation where they will be able to keep Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and maybe even JVR. This deal that i have proposed makes some sense for both sides. Arizona is terrible financially and on the ice. Taking on some extra salary would allow them get to the cap floor while Keller, Domi, Dvorak, Duclair, are all on rookie contracts. Obviously, the incentive they get from the leafs is a fairly high draft pick, and a solid prospect.

As for Bozak, that is an asset we know is going to be lost at the end of the year. Pitt would certainly give up a second or third rounder this year for some extra forward depth and a chance at another cup this year. Why no Ian Cole in return? I'm of the mind that the Leafs are FINE on the back end, and the last thing they need is another defenceman. Having a solid top 4 has been fine. Rielly, Zaitsev, Hainsey have been FANTASTIC, and are playing extremely well. Gardiner certainly has more to give, but that should be encouraging because when he is on, he is a damn good defender. Borgman has really started to come into his own as well which is a great sign, since he is only 22.

Jordan: Why does Bozak get traded? Cause he's a UFA? Do all 90 UFAs in the league get traded? Horton really doesn't get traded because his salary 5,25m is paid out of pocket. Arizona likes LTIRs that are paid by the insurance company.

Bozak gets traded because there is value there, for someone. If he stayed I wouldn't be upset. I get the impression Babcock isn't high on him. He would much rather have someone who is dependable at both ends of the ice. I think with the right package of prospects and picks you would be able to convince an Arizona to take on that contract. Perhaps the one I have proposed isn't the right fit, but there is a deal that would work.

Leafs have little reason to trade Horton the MLSE has a ton of cash to pay his contract that is not insured, the Coyotes do not.

Bozak gets traded bc the guy wanted to include that in his creative GM lineup, and he should be able to do that without getting questioned
I agree with Bozak gone at deadline if the deal is right
