Draisaitl and others

Created by: OilersNation
Team: 2017-18 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2017
Published: Dec. 8, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Hutchinson, Michael
Additional Details:
Why not? Hutchinson, unless injuries happen will never play another NHL game for Winnipeg especially with Comrie blocking his way.
WPG
  1. Brossoit, Laurent
  2. 2018 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Edmonton needs to take a risk on a backup, Hutchinson is too good to be in the minors but has struggled trying to make the Chel.
2.
EDM
  1. Bjorkstrand, Oliver
  2. Milano, Sonny
  3. Savard, David
Additional Details:
Columbus would be salivating at an offer like this, Savard is a needed RHD who is replace by an expendable and cheaper RHD in Benning, this is an expensive price for Draisaitl but worth it. Bonuses even out the rest of this trade, therefore making the cap possible to work out. Columbus could add Murray or Johnson just to even out the cap even more but could easily just trade them away to another team. If Columbus wants to contend they need to find a #1 centre more so than having Bjorkstrand or a struggling Milano (in the AHL). Right now their top centre does not even have .5 ppg (Dubinsky), which is not acceptable when it comes playoff time.
CBJ
  1. Benning, Matthew
  2. Draisaitl, Leon
Additional Details:
Oilers dump the rare two way #1 centre which is possible since they are acquiring NHL ready prospects.
3.
EDM
  1. 2018 4th round pick (MIN)
  2. 2018 4th round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Buffalo needs a better d-core period, Auvitu adds some offensive jazz to the third pairing
4.
EDM
  1. Dougherty, Jack
  2. 2018 1st round pick (NSH)
  3. 2018 3rd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Lets face it, Nashville needs wingers and would be willing to pay a decent price, they will likely have a late first while Edmonton will have a high 2nd making a 5-10 pick swing which is not much hence the 3rd ovr add. Maroon has the value of a late 2nd. Their winger depth is poor after the 2nd line and the Oilers have a plethora of LW, Doughtery is a decent enough RD prospect as a salvage player.
NSH
  1. Gryba, Eric
  2. Maroon, Patrick
  3. 2018 2nd round pick (EDM)
5.
EDM
  1. Hayes, Kevin
Additional Details:
Struggling to produce, maybe a change of scenery would be good.
NYR
  1. Strome, Ryan
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (EDM)
6.
EDM
  1. 2018 6th round pick (TBL)
MTL
  1. Fayne, Mark ($1,750,000 retained)

The package for Drai and then the package for Maroon and Gryba is almost equal..... Thats not even close to enough.

Jets have no motivation to move Hutchinson. Hutch could help the Oilers surpass the Jets in the Conference standings. Hardly worth a 3rd rounder to take that chance. Not that I'm against the Columbus trade but I don't understand your logic. You say CBJ needs this # 1 centre Draisaitl to do well in the playoffs. Gee, the Oilers with their two # 1 centres looks like they might not even make the playoffs. So is Leon, really that necessary?

Bjorkstrand alone is worth more than a 1st and a 3rd, on Mcdavids wing he would put .75 ppg, Milano who is struggling would put .65 reasonably on his wing, Savard is a PP dman who hasn’t been played there due to Jones. Maybe adding Dubois over Milano.

Bjork is not worth a 1st and a 3rd alone. Anyone can put up .75 ppg on McDavids line. Everyone thinks Maroon is good but he's garbage without McD.

Hence why I traded Maroon for minimal gain, its pretty similar to the Reaves trade. Bjork has pretty high value, why do guys like Hanzal get traded for a 1st and a 2nd? The only difference is Bjorkstrand is slightly less proven and is more sought after due to him being a RW, Milano is pretty much interchangeable with Dubois. I really don't see how this is too far off value wise.

I do understand your POV, however I think either CBJ's centre core will need to step up because the Pens or other teams will make them look like a rookie team. The Oilers are failing to make the playoffs based off Todd Mclellans stubborness, lack of depth scoring and poor backup goaltending, not their centre depth who have all been consistent enough.
As for the Hutch trade, Winnipeg did not make the playoff last year because him specifically was terrible. It is somewhat risky but Edmonton is pretty much done unless something big happens. Winnipeg will likely not have to worry about them this season.

Either Nuge or Drai will be gone in the next 3 seasons, your choice.
