Colorado Playoff Push

Created by: adlad98
Team: 2017-18 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 19, 2017
Published: Dec. 19, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
COL
  1. Kane, Evander
Additional Details:
Gives the Avalanche a needed scoring winger to round out their top 6 with
BUF
  1. Bigras, Chris
  2. Lindholm, Anton
  3. 2018 2nd round pick (NSH)
  4. 2018 5th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Gives the Sabres two picks in the upcoming draft along with two up and coming d-men who could help with defensive depth
2.
COL
  1. Petrovic, Alex
Additional Details:
Reliable d-man who can hopefully split minutes on the 1st pairing with EJ and on the 3rd pairing
FLA
  1. Toninato, Dominic
  2. 2018 4th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Toninato gives Florida a future depth scoring winger. The 4th gives Florida a decent draft pick to bolster the youth movement
3.
COL
  1. Murray, Ryan
Additional Details:
Gives Ryan Murray a chance to grow into the player he was supposed to become. Boom or bust type of trade
CBJ
  1. Siemens, Duncan
  2. Warsofsky, David
  3. 2018 1st round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
A very high draft pick as well as another failed top d prospect
4.
COL
  1. Maroon, Patrick
  2. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
  3. 2018 4th round pick (EDM)
  4. 2019 6th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
RNH fills that 2C hole quite nicely. Nuff said. Also, Maroon should slide nicely into a third line winger position.
EDM
  1. Beaudin, J.C.
  2. Greer, AJ
  3. Jost, Tyson
  4. Söderberg, Carl ($750,000 retained)
  5. 2018 2nd round pick (COL)
  6. 2019 3rd round pick (OTT)
  7. 2020 6th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Yes, the Oilers may look back very fondly on this trade. Carl Soderberg gives them a proven 3C to lead the charge into the future. Tyson Jost gives them a bluechip forward prospect who could very likely exceed RNH's abilities. AJ Greer and Nicolas Meloche are two very decent prospects who will help Edmonton become the new dynasty. JC Beaudin is a 'meh' prospect but could become a third line winger with the right development. The 2nd and 3rd are also quite good draft picks.
5.
COL
  1. Vanek, Thomas ($500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Hoping that Vanek becomes the second line right winger. If that doesnt work he will be moved to the third line and Kerfoot will step up.
VAN
  1. Yakupov, Nail
  2. 2019 5th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Yakupov gives them the opportunity to try out a failed forward and the 5th gives them another draft pick for the future

How so? The Florida one was maybe a stretch but I feel that the other ones are pretty realistic.

This team isn't trying to make a playoff push this year, or maybe even next year. They're still trying to go young, acquire draft picks and grow the core together. Vanek trade makes no sence as anything Vanek could do, Yak could probably do as well. I prefer Yak to Vanek and also prefer to keep the draft pick. I'd also prefer to keep the OTT 1st instead of trading for Murray, if he can't perform half decently with a winning CBJ side how is he going be any different here. I'd rather keep Jost, Greer, Beaudin and the COL 2nd instead of Maroon and RNH. Overpayment. COL is not in a rush to win just yet. I wouldn't do BUF trade either,

Yeah it was supposed to be a theoretical if we decided to go all in for the playoff hunt

Right so Colorado acquires 6 players when has that ever been done at the TDL, Like never there's no way that Colorado is making the playoffs far too many better teams in the west then Colorado this year they will finish in the bottom 10 again.

These trades are all pretty bad for one side or the other imho, but the trade with Edmonton is so far in Edmonton's favor that it is hard to take any of this seriously. Tyson Jost is likely to be the best player in the entire trade. The other prospects are all high quality prospects, including JC Beaudin. Your trade mentions Meloche, although he is not shown in the trade. Including him would be insane. You also give Edmonton the better picks. All of this for RNH and Patrick Maroon? Colorado needs to stick with their youth movement. If they were wanting to make a playoff push these are not the trades that would get them there. The quantity of trades would leave the entire organization shell shocked for the next three-months. Perhaps a reasonable trade for Evander Kane would yield some benefits, but the end result here is a team that isn't any better, with a decimated prospect pipeline, and a lack of picks to help rebuild when all is said and done.
