Deadline Deals

Created by: galz33
Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 21, 2017
Published: Dec. 21, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A few necessary deadline deals to bring some fresh legs to the back-to-back champs.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Bozak, Tyler
  2. 2018 5th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Brings in a third-line center who can kill penalties, win faceoffs, provide secondary scoring and chemistry with Kessel.
TOR
  1. Cole, Ian
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Gives the Leafs a solid top-6 defenseman entering free agency that they can resign for the long-term.
2.
PIT
  1. Archibald, Josh
  2. 2019 6th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Recapping assets previously traded away to gain some cap space for further moves. (Insert any lower end player, pick combo here)
ARI
  1. Hagelin, Carl
  2. McKegg, Greg
Additional Details:
Get someone who can step into their top-9 (Hagelin) in the short term, and a possible long-term 3rd line center (McKegg).
3.
PIT
  1. Simmonds, Wayne
Additional Details:
Gives the Pens a newer, fresher, younger version of Hornqvist with a better scoring touch. Will add new fire to the top-6 forwards. By dealing Hornqvist, can also afford to re-sign Bozak (to a more reasonable deal) after the season.
PHI
  1. Aston-Reese, Zach
  2. Hörnqvist, Patric
  3. 2018 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Gives the Flyers (hate them) a physical player with scoring touch to replace Simmonds in the short term (Hornqvist), a talented forward who just needs some room in the lineup and a high-pick to work with.

What are the odds of Pens trade Horny with Flyers and Flyers trade Simmonds with Pens???

It's easier to think that Pens could trade Crosby for McDavid than make that one.

I don't hate the value of the Flyers trade but there is no way the Flyers and the Pens become trade partners. Just look at the last deadline, Mark Streit was traded to Tampa and then traded to Pit bc they didn't want to make a deal with their huge rivals.

No way Penguins give away arguably their second-best prospect to a division rival, also don't see why the Flyers would want to get older with Hornqvist.
