Right after the 12/13 lockout, every team got two compliance buyouts which let them buyout two players at no penalty against the cap. Tampa elected to buy him out so they wouldn't have been paying 7 million in cap for him until 2020.

What he said. Habs used theirs on Gomez and Kaberle. Isles bought out DiPietro.

Tampa woulve been really up against it with Vinny around until 2020.
