Kane was 24 years old with multiple years left on his contract. Patch will be 30 next season, which is also his last before becoming UFA, so I don't think it's comparable at all. Not to mention, Patch is not a 30 goal scorer this season. Will he be again? Maybe, especially with a talented playmaking center to play with, but also maybe not. It's not uncommon at all for goal scoring wingers' production to start declining at 30 years old, especially those whose speed is important to their scoring, and Patch seems to have lost a step this season. A better comparable would probably be the Marian Gaborik trade to Columbus, which saw Derek Brassard (a similar player to RNH) being the main piece going the other way.
Nugent-Hopkins is 5 years younger than Patch, plays a more important position, is a very good defensive player, and is also more productive than Pacioretty this season. Given where they both are right now, he is easily the more valuable player.
see your error is trying to value what they could do .
in the NHL you get paid primarily based on results hence over paid contracts like
Plekanec, DD,Emelin and so many others .
if your logic on any level made sense players wouldnt be overpaid lol .
nor would players like Marchesault be floating around .
Kozlov again was seasons removed from his last 30 goals season and still demanded Hasek the leagues best goalie .
the reality is being a multiple 30 goal scorer isnt as common as you pretend it is
