Draisaitl on the move? (Montreal)

Team: 2017-18 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 9, 2018
Published: Jan. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming the rumours are true that Draisaitl is being shopped aggressively around the league, would this trade make sense? Lehkonen is a good two-way player with upside coming off an injury; McCarron is a solid defensive role player at very least, and potentially a top pick in 2018 or two first over the next two years. And with Draisaitl gone, Oilers would have about $12M in cap space to attract UFAs. And, assuming they do well on the picks, those players will come of age as the UFAs fade out.
Trades
EDM
  1. Carr, Daniel
  2. Lehkonen, Artturi
  3. McCarron, Michael
  4. 2018 1st round pick (MTL)
  5. 2019 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
If the 2018 pick is not in the top 10, then the 2019 pick converts to a 1st rounder as well.

Carr is a toss-in because he's a hard-working hometown kid.

Unfortunately, Lehkonen's not high profile enough to be a draw for Edmonton. He has all the tools, and is the type of player they could use, but he hasn't put it all together consistently yet. He will be a quality all around 20 goal scorer, but I'm not sure you can sell them on that yet.

As good as Drasaitl is, I think this is a bit too much for Montreal, because this year's pick has a very good chance of being very high. I also doubt that Edmonton is shopping Draisaitl so aggressively and even if they were to trade him, it would probably be a draft day trade.

Thanks for your opinion. I figure there'll be a long lineup of teams kicking the tires on Draisaitl, so I assumed Montreal would have to come in "hot" with a pretty irresistible offer.

On timing, I would have thought so too, but apparently a lot of what ails the Oilers is an internal feud between Draisaitl and a popular teammate. If the Oilers want to clear the air in the dressing room, Draisaitl might have to go sooner than later.

Scouts remain very high on Lehkonen. It would take Edmonton five games to start saying they won the trade once they see him play. He's very smart. Frankly, I think I'd rather keep him and trade Ikonen, but Chiarelli will have to have someone to put in the window.

That was the point. Answers the urgent needs of both teams.

IMO... if Draisaitl is on the Block... Montreal would need to switch Lekohnen for Gallagher at the minimum and add Lindgren instead of Carr.
So Lindgren, Gallagher, McCarron and 2 first pick.

I don't disagree, but there would be an uproar in the fan base. At least initially.
Lehkonen, Juulsen, Carr, 1st and a 2nd perhaps? With some lesser pieces going to Montreal (say Ryan Mantha and Mitch Callahan, for example).
Just spitballing.

As long as the key are the Draisaitl this way and the Habs' first going the other, the rest should come together. If they get greedy and push for Gallagher or Chucky, it would still be possible, but the first rounder in 2018 would likely be replaced with something less.

No fuss over Lindgren, McCarron and the picks, but Gallagher would be too valuable to be in that mix without a little more from Edmonton. I actually think Lehkonen is a better hockey player, but Gallagher is the team's
"courage" right now. For Gallagher to be in, perhaps Tyler Benson (or another second/third-line prospect) could come back.

As for Carr, you should take him. He really is a very good player caught in a numbers game in Montreal but would fit in well as a 2-4 liner on the Oilers.
