I know the Sharks are in a playoff position and that Joe Pavelski is their captain.
But I also know that he is 33 years old and a free agent after 18-19. No part of me believes that San Jose will want to move him, however:
Due to Patrick Marleau walking and Joe Thornton being 38, the Sharks, just as St. Louis acted with Kevin Shattenkirk, can benefit long-term by moving such a valuable asset. Due to the salary cap, it is just not possible to maintain long-term competitive play while also letting so many of your players walk or retire. Coincidentally, Joe fits St. Louis' needs perfectly. In a proposal of this nature, it is entirely reasonable for Joe to return to SJS as a free agent in 19-20 and finish his career there.
He plays hockey the way Mike Yeo and his new teammates would expect, shoots from the Right, fills a 1-year void that Paul Stastny's 18-19 void will create, and fills out the top 6 for a serious playoff push in 17-18.
In return for Joe, SJS receives a late 1st round pick who is in the NHL right now, a 21 year old defenseman who has been developed the right way, and 2 additional picks to inject youth into the line-up.
When considering recent "rentals", including 2-year rentals, I believe this package of players, prospects, and picks is a win-win for both clubs.
You're welcome to hate on this proposal all you want, but even if you hate the Blues, a line of Schwartz, Schenn, and Pavelski pretty much breaks hockey, and I know we all want to watch that.
this is interesting, I do not think San Jose will do it this year, more likely next year or in the off season after Thornton decides to retire or sign somewhere else.

I really hope he ends up taking a year in STL. I've always respected his play-style, leadership, and skill-set. He's probably the only 33 year old dude I would create a proposal for that includes highly refined prospects.
I've looked at every club in the NHL and cannot find a better fit that both teams benefit from.

Yeah it would make sense and I would think he is the type of guy that STL likes. Also right handed and could be a good fit alongside Schwartz and Schenn.
But the question would be can Pavelski make that much more of an impact than Thompson can. Which I do not think would be worth losing him for a year of Pavelski.
