Not supposed to be fair, a look at what matching the Sabres stated price is for him at this moment.

This is worlds beyond the Sabres asking price, and completely unrealistic. The roster player that Botterill is looking for isn't going to be an impact player because no team is going to trade one away when they're looking to stack up for the playoffs. Buffalo is just looking for a depth or bubble player to fill the hole Kane leaves so we don't have to tear Rochester apart during their own playoff race.

People are taking the 'roster player' report completely out of proportion. The pick and prospect will be the valuable returns for Kane.

While I'm thinking about it, here's a more realistic proposal that still fits the rumored framework:

Kane (50% retained) for Fabbro, McLeod, a 2019 2nd, and a conditional 2018 3rd if Nashville re-signs Kane.

Just guessing but I feel any discussions between these teams center around Dante Fabbro. He is the young RHD the Sabres need in their system.
