Habs teardown?

Created by: Angry_Canucklehead
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2018
Published: Jan. 20, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is meant to be extreme. Of course it's really unlikely for Weber or price to be moved at all, but it may seriously be worth it in the future as both are over 30 but can still bring in an enormous return
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2018 3rd round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Plekanec, Tomas ($3,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Possible TDL veteran depth boost for Nashville, especially considering the injuries.
2.
CGY
  1. Pacioretty, Max
Additional Details:
Flames want to improve scoring, and they want to unload Bennett. Habs get a promising youngster in need of a scenery change. I see this as a win-win
3.
MTL
  1. 2018 4th round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Alzner, Karl
Additional Details:
The Isles need defense badly, and the Habs would like to unload Alzner's hit here. Low return is for taking the contract.
4.
MTL
  1. Hagelin, Carl
  2. Sprong, Daniel
  3. 2018 1st round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Drouin isn't working out in Montreal and should be moved before his stock plummets. They still pull a promising prospect in Sprong and a late 1st rounder. Not many better places for this kid to find his potential then beside 2 of the best 5 players in the NHL.. Hagelin is taken as a cap dump so Pittsburgh can handle Drouins contract
5.
DAL
  1. Weber, Shea
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
The Stars will have to pay up big time to get Weber. Nearly every team with enough space will be after him if he were to be on the block, but this would push Dallas' Cup window open big-time. Heiskanen is a top prospect and likely the necessary return for a defenceman as skilled and valuable as Weber. Montreal retains 50% for first three years.
6.
MTL
  1. 2018 3rd round pick (PHI)
PHI
  1. Byron, Paul
Additional Details:
Flyers could add depth at forward
7.
MTL
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony
  2. Boychuk, Johnny
  3. Ho-Sang, Joshua
  4. 2018 1st round pick (CGY)
  5. 2018 1st round pick (NYI)
  6. 2019 1st round pick (NYI)
  7. 2020 2nd round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Price, Carey
Additional Details:
I am aware this trade is incredibly controversial but in order for the rebuild to work effectively, they can't have a guy who is going to win games singlehandedly. The return will be absolutely massive and with Lindgren, the Habs have a future between the pipes anyway. Best goalie in the NHL won't come cheap whatsoever. Boychuk is taken to create cap space, and to be a leader for the young Habs D-men. Isles become a major Cup threat immediately as goaltending woes have been solved indefinitely.

That Price trade is pretty bad; he's not even remotely close to that valuable, especially since his contract is so bad. Also, Patches can fetch a hell of a lot more than just Bennett.

Price is still a top-3 goalie at least. Pacioretty for Bennett is pretty even as I find Bennett to be quite underrated. He's only 21. He has a ton of upside.

Plex right value wrong team

Calgary would have to add a pick Max is worth more than Sam alone, had Sam lived up to his potential it would be a different story

Pitt passes. 1st is max value for Drouin.

Dallas passes unless you want to take some bad contracts in return. Good as weber is nobody wants his contract. Dallas is cap tight.

Philly - non plsyoff teams usually aren’t buyers but this is good value for them. Accept

NYI pass not only are they not giving up that much they still want to sign JT bringing on Price contract will make it difficult. But you are not getting 2 promising players and 4 high picks for him. Replace Boychuk with Greiss and take out a pair of picks and you’d be closer to value, probably still to high. But closer. They’d still say no though. If you really want to dump Price i’d look to Carolina. Tough sell for them to take that contract when they lose $$$ every year but a new owner might take a chance to generate some buzz. Price and Galchenyuk for Faulk, Rask, Darling, Bean, Gauthier, and pick or 2?
