Not sure a deal would get done then. Why would MTL trade him only to retain 3 million of his cap? So essentially he plays for someone else for 7 million.

If you're doing a rebuild and the cap keeps growing, you can afford to have some dead cap space. See Toronto. Granted, theirs is only 1.2 mil with Kessel's contract, but it's allowed them to rebuild effectively

Yes the cap is moving up and up, but we all know there will be a market correction for that at the next CBA. Paying a retained salary of 3 million just cant be the option, especially at that log team. If it was 1 million or 1.2 on that term, then ok get it done. But MTL can't have Price go to another team and have to retain 30%ish of the cap hit.
