If he's so good why isn't he playing with Crosby or Malkin? And yup 1 playoff run let's see what he does this year. Btw Patches sucked last playoffs but the playoffs before he was putting up pts.

Okay just because someone doesnt play with Malkin or Crosby doesnt mean they arent good. Look at Kessel for example.

I will be honest here, comparing Patcioretty to Kessel is not good, Kessel is a lot better and we traded Kapanen, Harrington, Spaling, and a 1st. Spaling you dont even hear from, Kapanen is still a top prospect, and Harrington is nothing more than an AHL D-man.

Kapanen’s value has dropped off a lot by now. You expect a 1st from 2014 to be in the NHL by now.

Because the bottom 6 wasn’t working and we needed to juice it up . . .

If you consider 3 ES goals in the 14-15 playoff run “putting up points”, you do you.

Last time I check a point is a point? How many Even strength goals does ovheckin score in the post season? Just check 2015-2016 he has 2.. and 3 in 16-17. Guentzal is still worth more though eh?

And how has Ovi done in the post season?

Tell me how Guentzel doesn’t have more value than Pacioretty, comparing every little thing and not just some made up bullshit.

90 pts in 97 games actually pretty good. Not his fault the rest of his team chokes. And it's impossible to tell what their values are. Certain teams will value other players higher. I imagine a team who's looking for a scoring winger then Pacioretty is the guy. You can hate all you want the dude put up multiple 30 goal seasons playing with terrible players. 2nd behind ovi for gwg?

Tell me why you think Guentzal has more value? Besides his contract because Patches is only making 4.5

Also Guentzals line mates are usually Crosby, or Malkin and Kessel. Which helps him put up points. Tell me who Patches played with. Oh right Desharnais,Danualt, Plekanec, and Shaw and Gallagher. Not even close to the same talent level. Even Conor Mcdavid makes Maroon look good

Wow. I don't even know where to start with what I've been reading. Just a couple of the worst points.

Guentzel > Pacioretty?
Are you aware of how many players have a promising season or two and become nothing? That's why players who have consistently performed at a high level are more sought after.

Kessel trade involved a few promising pieces that didn't pan out. Leafs could have ended up with 3 quality players in what was essentially two 1sts and a 2nd.
Compare it to Maata, Sprong, and a 1st for perspective on what they were hoping it would look like. (Not because Sprong is a sure thing either, but because people are treating him like he is).
That 1st let them pick up Andersen, but it ended up being Sam Steel when Anaheim used it.
Sprong wasn't an option at the time of the trade, so that package could just as easily have been Maata, Jarry, and Steel. The pieces didn't turn out as well, but the value was the same when put in perspective. So let's stop acting like the Pens got Kessel for peanuts. They were just lucky that the package value looks lower in retrospect.

But why would PIT trade Guentzel for him? Nobody has answered it because MTL fans know they are wrong when trying to explain.

His contract is one of the main reasons. You need ELC players to win championships.
