Yes you are upgrading the Devils by trading worse players for better players.

I would say no from buffalo. Zajac and ror are similar players, but zajac is 6 years older and his offense is trending down, his contract at almost 6 mil for 3 more years isnt helping. Santini is probably a younger scandella, but the sabres defense is a tire fire right now. I would prefer mcleod to nylander as nylanders development in the ahl has stalled, and if hes not scoring hes not helping. Schneider is an upgrade, but goalie is absolutely not a position i want to spend huge money or assets to fix. And clearly schneiders higher value is pushing this package towards fair value, its just not the kind of deal i would touch.

admittedly, that deal is a stretch and I was getting more and more tired as I tried to piece it together, but I do feel there is enough of a defense of it to at least work on it. the core of it is schneider for o'reilly. schneider has a good contract and will perform much better when he has a better defense in front of him. but mostly I look at this, from the sabres' perspective, as whether or not bringing in a top 7 nhl goalie (who happens to be from new england) would make jack eichel happy. he is an upgrade over lehner and locked in at a very fair value rate for the rest of his prime years. so if the core is schneider for ROR, how do we make that trade work?

They wouldnt. ROR is a core forward piece and if they are bailing on Lehner its because they have Ullmark. The sabres main issue right now are their forwards. Theyre one of the slowest teams in the league. Schnieder doesnt make them any better and would be wasting the last of his best years on a rebuilding team
