A Hockey Trade With Toronto?

Created by: Flames22
Team: 2017-18 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2018
Published: Feb. 1, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this is a pretty fair trade. Toronto desperately needs defensive help, and Calgary needs another top forward to play on the right wing. The way I see it, this is a win-win. Yes, Toronto gives up a fantastic player, but they also get back a defenseman for now (Hamonic), a defenseman for the future (Valikmaki), and a ton of potential with Bennett. It seems to me that this is a good hockey trade.

For Calgary's end, Marner and Tkachuk (old linemates in London) are reunited. I think this gives the Flames two genuine scoring lines, as well as two defensive shutdown lines, each with offensive upside. On the back end, I think Andersson is ready to make the jump.

Is this fair?

Maybe if Calgary substituted Doug Hamilton instead of Hamonic.

That still makes Nashville a weaker team. Jarnkrok is a really solid player on one of the best deals in the league. As someone who watches a lot of Preds games, Ekholm is arguably their 2nd best D man.

Good point about Jarnkrok and Ekholm it's just they are a solid team so as much as the team would be weaker they'd still be a contending team. Lol

Toronto has the top 15 lowest Goals against per game. Don't really get this notion that Toronto is desperate need of defenders.

They aren't desperate at all and won't be moving any key pieces before they see what they have in their current defenders and prospects. Looks like they could have 5 top 4 defenders by the end of the year. Not too shabby

Damn right dude! They could actually move a defenceman or a winger for a center if they want to.

As a neutral I'd like to see Tkachuk and Marner together for selfish reasons and this trade seems tilted in the Leafs favor value wize.

Do it!
