No Buchnevich

Description
Recent rumors from the KHL are that SKA have plans to re-sign Pavel Buchnevich. If he does decide to stay in Russia, the Rangers will have to replace him in their lineup for next year, as he is highly projected to make the team if he were to come to North America.
And yes, I have the Rangers trading for Vrbata, not re-signing him, and then signing Versteeg.

For those who are asking why Vancouver would do this deal, they do this because Vrbata is a 34 year old player in the last deal of his contract. If you ask me, I don't see them re-signing him this offseason. They are weak defensively as well, insert Marc Staal. Staal is still a Top 4 Defenseman, yes he has struggled but he is still a Top 4 Defenseman; and I feel his struggles are overblown as every NYR D-man has struggled this year.
In terms of why I did the lines as I did:
Nash-Brassard-Zuccarello: This is undeniably the Rangers top line. They play very well together, no reason to change it.
Kreider-Stepan-Versteeg: Kreider and Stepan have great chemistry to begin with. Versteeg DRIVES possession.
Jensen-Hayes-Miller: Why Miller on the 3rd line? I LOVE his game and think he is a 2nd line player BUT I really like him with Hayes. Put him on the right side here to be Hayes' #1 option. Energy/forechecking line. Defense is only question mark
Glass-Lindberg-Fast: Its not very likely we get rid of Glass which means it will be tough to re-sign Moore. Lindberg can win faceoffs and along with Fast, they are quick and can generate offense.

Sorry about Buchnevich, but the good news is that you get to keep Marc Staal. Could you explain why the Canucks would trade to get his 5.7m long term contract? Wouldn't the Canucks be a lot better off just signing a free agent?

Why would Buchnevich want to re-sign with a team that gives him about 7-10 minutes a game when he can get much better time and experience in the NHL?

Buchnevich is more of a "just in case" kind of thing.
Vancouver would do it to improve their defense. Hamhuis is 33 and a free agent. Other than Edler, their Defense is very weak. They fill a need with Staal. If the Rangers are able to eat 1.2 of that contract, I'd put money that they would do that deal.

Do you think Vancouver could find better value than trading for Staal? That 5.7 million contract (or now you relented with retention is 4.5m) The trade is one of the endless....dumping contracts onto other teams so the "smart" team can sign UFAs (like Yandle).
OK, we'll see where Stall and his NTC plays next year.

LOL, Edler isn't even their best d-man. Tanev is.
