Bigger Deals (maybe offseason)

Description
A few deals that could also be made in the offseason

Smith for Beleskey deal was proposed by KPD on twitter, didn't seem like a bad idea cosndiering both players need a fresh start and Smith is still a bit more capable of keeping up in the NHL than Beleskey

Domi is having a tough season in Arizona with only three goals in 50 some odd games. To be fair though, the whole team is having a bad season so the numbers don't tell the whole story. So why not buy him at a low point now and sell Spooner who's value has peaked this season? And really who couldn't see Domi in a Bruins jersey

Bringing back Iginla on a quick end of the season contract would ensure them with some extra depth for the playoffs (in case the powerplay runs dry or need a bit of physicality) if they can get him to do some private workouts and prove he can still keep up.

I think a Carlo for Domi deal straight up would be closer to being fair... that said I don't see Sweeney doing it. Spooner will probably be moved to move us up in the draft. I'm feeling Serron Noel; I just have a feeling about it.

No and no. One bad contract for a worse one. Need Carlo more than Domi.

Could maybe see that being the case, but Carlo hasn't really showed any improvement from last season. Ya it may be a sophmore slump or the fact he's not playing with Chara but I can't see them making that trade 1 for 1. You're right though, Spooner will most likely be used as a trade chip to move up in the draft but I can't see them taking Noel. Even though it would be a great pick for them and fill a need they'll have when Backes is eventually gone, Boston really hasn't picked a power forward in the first round since Jordan Caron , but I guess you could argue that's why they would pick Noel. We shall see

For the extra 500k they would be paying Smith, they would get more use out of him than they would Beleskey. I personally can't see Carlo developing into a top 4 D- man and he's going to be paid as one at the end of this contract but that's just a personal opinion, no one can say how he'll turn out

Who atre you benching for Smith? grizz? Have you seen the 2 of them play this year? Rather play Grizz. Smith is LD Carlo RD. I’d take on a bad contract in return for Beleskey if it expires quicker.

I also see Carlo getting overpaid. I'm no fortune teller, but I've just got a sick feeling about it. I think because he's a big body and does really good moving power forwards out of Rask's crease he will get paid solely on that, ignoring all the areas where he lacks... especially his lack of ability to read the play.

Gryz has done a good job but has been pretty sheltered for the most part. I think Smith coming in on a fresh start would play more so how he's capable of and not try and play up to the amount he's being paid. Agree though that by bringing in Smith it doesn't leave space for other LHD (Zboril, Lauzon, Lindgren, etc.) in the future. Maybe bringing in Oduya as a cheap rental would be better giving depth at LHD in case of injury.

Agree with that, he does some things pretty well but most of that is because of his size. He's not going to turn out to be a Myers or Parayko - esque player
