I'd rather sign Backlund and De Haan then sign Carlson and JVR. I think Backlund would make our center core extremely good, and he is a guy I think Q would trust more than JVR. Signing De Haan over Carlson is just because De Haan will be cheaper and left handed. The Hawks already have Murphy and Seeadrook who are RHD, Jokiharju is also a RHD and so is Ian Mitchell who will be ready in maybe two years. I also don't understand why you signed Cammalleri, I would rather play Sosh, or even a up and coming guy from the AHL like, Highmore or Louis.

De Haan and Backlund are massive downgrades from JVR and Carlson. You go from a top pairing guy and a top 6 F to a bottom pair guy and a guy that's going to end up as a 3C.

I just think that it will be harder to find a good third line center then to find a winger that can play with Kane ans Schmaltz.

Why are you going to pay that much for a 3C anyways though? Look at the last few cup teams and how much their 3C was making at the time. Backlund will want 5M. Whats the point?
