Created by: Astoria
Team: 2015-16 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 7, 2016
Published: Feb. 7, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't know if any team would be interested in Kessel but Arizona might be one of a few teams that would actually be possible to happen. Arizona is a young team still not playoff ready yet. This gives them a winger in Kessel with 1m retained so his cap is 5.8m which is getting closer to his actual worth. Bryan Rust is a very fast young wing, and Ian Cole is a former 1st round pick. Penguins get a wing to replace Kessel and help on defense they desperately need. They also free up some cap space. Arizona might want a little more so they could throw in another young kid. Don't follow Ari at all so I don't know what they need/want but they haven't made the Playoffs in 4 seasons so something should change.

Giving up way too much for Boedker, especially when he has to get resigned after this season. Also, we do not want Michalek back and he is worth Ian Cole 1:1.

First of all, there are several teams that would want Kessel. Just because he isn't having the best year doesn't mean that teams don't know how good of a player he is. Teams like Anaheim, Minnesota, and Nashville are just a few of many teams that would pursue Kessel. I just think those 3 teams would be the most aggressive. They may not be straight up deals for just Kessel, but I can think a a trade that would be good for both teams with Anaheim, Minnesota, AND Nashville. The trade you proposed is bad. You trade away highly skilled Kessel, one of the better forward prospects the pens have, and well...Ian Cole plus the pick for one of the worst defensemen for the Coyotes and a very good Boedker. I wouldn't even trade just Kessel for Boedker and Michalek. Especially given what we gave up to get him less than a year ago.
