Interesting idea

Created by: ithical
Team: 2017-18 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2018
Published: Feb. 20, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Saw this in a leafs proposed trades. Ritchie is just not good enough for the speed of Kase and the hands of Rico. Leivo should be an improvement and would have the same value as Soshnikov to STL. Vermette is not doing so well for us in the circles anymore and we can get a decent pick off him. Grant has played better.

I wouldn't be opposed to see what leivo could do. He is a cheap option who has been pretty good when in the lineup for TOR.

Im not sure RC splits up Ritchie, Henrique and kase tho, they have been a very effective as of late.

And Vermette is second in the league in FO%. The ducks are hoping to be a playoff team, I can't see them moving him when he's a go to for RC on any FO.

Agree with the bold. Ritchie has really picked things up of late. No need to mess with that.

I'm not sure about Vermette though. He's been pretty terrible this season and has provided very little aside from his FO ability. I think BM would be willing to move him for that kind of price and we all know he's been getting calls about Vermette. IMO, Grant looks more than capable in that 4C role and we don't look like a solid contender anyway. Why not cash in on Vermette now? If we make it, we make it. If we don't, at least we got some extra value out of our expiring contracts. I mean, an extra 2nd (assuming TB makes the ECF) could yield us a neat little player. Moreover, it's not like having Vermette on the team or not is going to be the difference between us making the playoffs/going deep or not. IMO, Grant is an upgrade in terms of on-ice ability and the loss of Vermette's FO ability can be replaced with guys like Getzlaf and Kesler.
