I can't support this as a sabres fan. We are terribly thin already and trading 6 assets for Karlsson is a no go.

It is a lot. I obviously don't like taking on Ryan. I think this might be a fair-ish trade for him. I'd love to hear from Sens fans, or other teams' fans, on this one. I know 6 pieces is a lot. I just changed up the roster to show what it could look like next year. Remember, we will get pieces for Kane (and Lehner, if traded). Plus, we still have our top pick this year. It leaves the cupboards a little bare (Pu, Davidsson, Borgen), but this team with Karlsson will be much, much improved.

If I am the Sabres, I'm also waiting until July 1 for a sign and trade.

Karlsson will get over 12 million.

that means Eichel + OReilly + Okposo + Karlsson + Ryan = $43 million per year on 5 players for the next 5 years.

Updated with Kane & Lehner deals. I could also see Gorges (and maybe Pouliot, Nolan, Josefson) going for late round picks.

Ryan would be bought out or traded (or LTIR'ed) when necessary.

Buyouts last twice as long as the length of the contract.

even if you cut his salary in half, we would be paying 4 players and a former player 39 million. we would have 41 million for 19 players, several of whom like Ristolainen and Scandella are under contract at 9.4 million total themselves.

you haven't thought this through

Yes, I have. Let's look at 2019-2020 (Karlsson's new deal year)

Let's assume cap is $80mm.

Eichel $10mm
ROR $7.5mm
Okposo $6mm
Sobotka $3.5
Rodrigues $1mm
Baptiste $1mm
Bailey $1mm
CJ Smith $1mm
Nylander $894K
Mittelstadt $894K
Kyrou $772K
Pu $760K

Karlsson $12mm
Risto $5.4mm
Scandella $4mm
Guhle $700K
Antipin $2mm
McCabe $2.5mm

2018 1st $925K (Dahlin, Svechnikov, Zadina, Tkachuk, Bovquist)

Ullmark $2.5mm
Backup $1mm

Buyouts
Ryan $3,5mm
Pommers $1.25mm
Bogo $1mm
Hodgson $800K

Total Cap Hit $72mm

Lines:

Rodrigues-Eichel-Nylander
Kyrou-Mittelstadt-Baptiste
Smith-ROR-Okposo
Sobotka-Pu-Bailey

Karlsson-Risto
Guhle-Scandella
McCabe-Antipin

I would love Karlsson in Buffalo but I doubt he wants to come to Buffalo. Also, I guarantee you our team would be better with those players and picks than trading them for Karlsson. I would only be willing to give up Lehner, 2019 1st and Kane for Karlsson, otherwise it hurts our future too much and it's not worth it

Blues say no. they aren't winning the cup this year so trading Kyrou and a 1st is pointless for them
