Why wouldn't Chicago just trade Hossa straight to Vegas for a second? Other than no one is giving up a 2nd for a basically retired player. Also why would Chicago want to fill in cap space created by moving Hossa with a player as bad as Lehtera?

Lethera is only one season of cap hit at 4 mil versus Hossa’s 4 season on the books at I think 5.25 mil. CHI will pay the same amount of money (4 mil) because Hossa’s actual salary is only 1 mil a season, but at the end of the 2018-19 season they wouldn’t have to worry about the cap.

As for why they don’t do this directly with Vegas I don’t have a really good answer, the only thing I think is it will take another team for the GM’s to see that it’s an easy fix and no one needs to be strong armed because Vegas will need cap hit, and Chicago needs to shed it but both would be dealing from need.

Another thing is that the Flyers could just keep the Hossa contract for the season and then deal it later when they need to resign the RFAs.
