The Preds can't afford to take back Weber with Subban there and MB isn't going to eat close to $2 million of Weber's salary for the next 8 years or so no way.

Possibly but i doubt even the next GM there would do it. Especially if it turns into Ken Holland who only retains on pending UFAs

yeah but if injuries force Weber to retire, Preds get KILLED by cap recapture. For example, if he retirerd in 2019-2020, Preds get killed by a 3.5M cap recapture for 7, 7! years. If he retires with 1 year left, it'S 24M cap penalty, applied in 1 year.

So I do believe Weber finishes his career in a Preds jersey, either playing for them or on LTIR but no way Preds get hammered by the recapture.

A smart GM would leverage this fact and get an asset out of Nash for sure.

My bet is Julien Brisebois, maybe Quintal. Ken Holland dosen't speak a word of french, direction won't name a new GM who dosen't speak french i believe.

But retaining Weber's salary is for me the only way to maximise his value and make him attractive, a bit like what OTT did with Phaneuf or TOR with Kessel.

yeah but if injuries force Weber to retire, Preds get KILLED by cap recapture. For example, if he retirerd in 2019-2020, Preds get killed by a 4M cap recapture, if he retires with 1 year left, it'S 24M cap penalty, applied in 1 year.

So I do believe Weber finishes his career in a Preds jersey, either playing for them or on LTIR but no way Preds get hammered by the recapture.

Yeah i was just being kind of sarcastic mentioning Ken Hollands name, He'll probably look at the Seatlle GM job here shortly.

If the cap recapture penalty isn't modified at any time in the foreseeable future, I can almost guarantee Weber will be traded back to the Predators.

BUT this is where a rival team to Nashville, let's say Chicago, St Louis or maybe even Winnipeg, could take advantage of this more then the Habs. Imagine a rival team being able to cripple another teams finances with one swift blow?

Let's replace Nashville here with Toronto just for example. Let's say Mtl trades Weber to Ottawa instead of back to Toronto, both MTL and OTT could cripple T.O to the point of them having to sell off a huge portion of there assets. The most extreme example is if Weber retires due to injury with 1 year left, the Leafs would be forced to cut their salary cap by a whopping 24M! That would mean everyone except for the absolute core of the team gone and replaced with cheap contracts. That could severely hamper their cup aspirations not only for that one year but for many going forward as they'd have to sell off talented players at a discount.

Once again, Nashville only gets screwed by this if the NHL doesn't amend the rule to accommodate Nashville here which in all honesty wouldn't surprise me. It also depends on whether Weber decides to play out his entire contract. If he is someone who would be willing to play the final couple years of his contract when he's making 1M, then it doesn't help MTL at all. Given all his injuries and age though, I think it may be cut short regardless of whether he wants to or not.

There's also a possibility of an under the table agreement not reported to the media. Poile and Bergevin agree to trade Subban vs Weber and keep both guys on their respective clubs for 5 years. At the start of the 6th season, Weber is sent back to Nashville for an already pre-determined price. (Example Weber is traded back to Nashville at the start of X season for a 1st round pick.)

If that was the agreement, MB is still an idiot as that is a huge risk that could of easily been rectified against him if all the factors went a certain way.

Actually, Bergevin doesn't speak French either. He's got the proficiency level of a 3rd grader, no jokes.
