Why not all three?

Created by: JT_Miller

Description
I wouldn't mind trading either Spooner or Vlad but the team doesn't look bad with all three signed. The only problem is then blocking a potential spot for Lias or Chytil however any of those 4 guys could play the wing. I think they give Chytil or andrson a shot at the 3c role and the other plays wing on the second line. I wouldn't mind them playing together on the third line but I don't know if a coach would do that. Defense is still a mess so hopefully their d prospects pan out. Give Georgiev 30ish games and stop overworking hank.

As of now Hayes and Spooner are similar with contract extensions. I would give both roughly 4.1-4.2 for 3 years/4 years. Hayes isn't worth 5mil+ as of now. I like the Gilmour 2 year 1mil deal. Vesey deal reminds me of Calle Jarnkrok deal similar stats 3rd-4th line guys. Now with the Namestnikov deal. Vladislav really benefited from Stamkos and Kucherov. NYR is far from having talent like those two but I do believe Vladislav is a solid player. Sadly his stats from previous years aren't amazing so you can see a production boost with such a talented given line. I believe NYR will have full control of this deal and maybe give him a 3 year maybe even 2 year 4.25 AAV contract until his RFA rights are up making him an UFA and that's when NYR will know if Vlad is indeed apart of the bright future in New York. I like the ideas you have.

As long as 1 can agree with being a winger, or if they rotate at C or something because they dont have the space for all 3 at C with all the young C depth they have right now

Your contract values are spot on. Not sure what this other guy is talking about. The thing I don't love is putting Lias on the wing. He should be playing center. You're going to really hurt his development by not doing that.

Look up comparables and the contracts that these level of players are signing today and you'll see that they're pretty fair contracts.

you don't sign 3rd line players to long contracts when they have 3+ years of arbitration left. Skjei has 4 or 5 years of arbitration left and you want to give him $5million for 1 good season and 1 ok season. Hayes hasn't proven himself to be more than a 3rd line center. this year was his chance to prove he could be #2 Center and he failed. The rangers typical sign players (stepan and Mac) to 4 year deals when they have 2 years of arbitration left. You're buying out only the first year of UFA for hayes and spooner, that doesn't make sense even if they were top 6 forwards.

I wouldn't say Hayes failed at all. AV has deployed him in many different situations and given him tougher assignment this whole season and last season and he has had a bounce back year compared to last season. Since he first signed with the Rangers out of college he is third out of all rangers skaters in primary points per 60 with 1.64 only behind Nash (1.78) and Grabner (1.65). Also out of his first 293 games played he has had 162 points, 99 of which are primary making about 61% of all the points he produces primary. So id say he is trending upwards to being a solid 2C, if he isn't already there. (https://www.blueshirtbanter.com/2018/3/4/17068950/kevin-hayes-new-york-rangers-vladislav-namestnikov-free-agency) Regarding the contract, fine, go ahead and sign Hayes to 7 years but he will be 33 when that deal expires and do you really want to have him at that age. 4 years would mean he would be 30 when his deal is up, just coming out of his prime. Also handing out longer term deals will block all of the young talent the Rangers will (hopefully) have coming up through the draft and their trades.

you're missing the point, he has 3 years of arbitration left. Nowhere did I say sign him to a 7 year deal, that would be insanity at the highest level. I wouldn't sign him to anything longer than 2 years, although he'll probably only get 1 year deal in arbitration this year. He has 32 points this season, he and the rest of the team stunk this year. Yes he's dependable defensively but his offensive game is completely unreliable. Solid 2C generally score more than 35 points in a season. The Kevin Hayes that gets 49 points and plays against the top forwards is probably worth over $4.5 a year. The Kevin Hayes of this season shouldn't get anything more than $3.5 a year.
