This is okay, but I think you might need to trade Backes the following year if you give Nash that term. McAvoy + Carlo + Heinen + JFK likely equate to more than the 5M you have now + the amount the cap could go up. McAvoy himself could take up 6m+.

Agreed - while Nash is a good player, can't give him more than a year. He probably wants a big contract. I don't see him with the Bruins next year.

I also don't think Wingles is a good sign with the players in the pipeline.

I think this years experience will dictate wether he comes back or not. If we make it to the ECF or Finals he could potentially come back on a 1 year deal if he has a ton of fun and thinks Boston can win. He's made enough money in the league as he's had a deal over 5M for 13 seasons, so even if you put the number at exactly 5M it'd be 65M that he's made, which it isn't it's well over that. Anyone who chases the money over winning after making 65M isn't the type of guy we'd want back anyways.

With mcquaid off the books... chara taking a bonus based contract... and hayes buyout off the books it should give around 10 mill to resign mcavoy and carlo. Im afraid heinen has a problem called competition for his job. Is he going to be worth a big contract when we have donato and bjork begging for a job at 1/4 the cost?

We get to the 2020-2021 season and suddenly some of our ntc are much easier to move

We are in a win now window and we have cap room and lots of kids to trade at deadline to fill holes... time to go for it

Heinen's 39pts in 59 games. Nash is 31 in 65. Why are we harming ourselves by locking up Nash to play as a 37 year old in the 3rd year of his deal so we can Squeeze Heinen out due to competition? If anything Heinen is the better player moving forward and his benching is basically just getting his compete level up by playoff time. Doing that doesn't erase the fact that he's been our best 3rd liner all year. He's had much greater high's than the other 2 but now is having a greater low. That's what rookies do and should have been expected. Heinen is a core piece moving forward unless we can trade him for an upgrade imo.

100%. Nash has maybe one season where he'll be better than the replacement, and the only players older than him are Chara and Gionta. Bruins already have their experienced core at forward in Bergeron, kreijci, Marchand, backes (+pasternack on $) - in order to compete under the cap, they need to constantly develop players to play with them.
