I would assume that Karlsson would be a 11+ kind of deal.

Is a team guaranteed a playoff spot? no, and ironically Edmonton has taught us that recently...

If I gave a team a top 10 pick every year for a decade and half of those 10 picks were guaranteed to be first overall would that team be a guaranteed playoff lock?

lol...

I mean Edmonton was gifted another dynasty on paper and they're not going to the playoffs - on the contrary they may pick first overall again.

I don't think Sekera will waive his NMZ, so trading him for cap space to sign Carlson unfortunately won't happen. I think we have to hope that Sekera regains his 2016/17 form, which thankfully it does look like he is trending up in the last couple games. If Grabner would sign for us for only 3 years and we could fit it under the cap I would go for that, especially as he is ideally a 2nd or 3rd liner, but can play ahead of Yamamoto until Yamamoto knocks him down the depth chart. The only thing I really don't like here is Draisaitl for Hoffman, despite the 1st. Draisaitl is a better 2nd line center than RNH, he is bigger and good at faceoffs. Then if we play RNH as a LW for McDavid or Drai, is Hoffman going to score that many goals than him that it is worth losing the flexibility of having an extra center? RNH is on pace for 30 goals and 57 points . The last 3 games on McDavids wing he is on pace for 55 goals and 82 points. I know thats an extremely small sample size but the point is I could see Hoffman scoring 35-40 goals on McDavids wing, and RNH scoring 30-35 goals for longer since hes younger.
