Something to Consider

Description
If they want Tavares it is definitely possible. With Stan on the hot seat this could be his I'm going down swinging signing. They don't really need to make a move for a D with Crow back for a full year and would give them additional cap space at the deadline.

Tavares is about 12 million, and I don’t think Anismov fetches you that, he’s having a down year for sure which may be a sign of decline, considering he will be 30 at the draft...

Hossa went on LTIR this year, if the GM meetings don't address that he can go on LTIR again. Tavares needs 11.5 per and 1C. Toews will excel in a 2C role with Kane on his wing. Also, I don't think Anisimov fetches you that. The defense is the same miserable bunch that won't work either.

Fair assessments made here. Yes the defense is the same miserable bunch and there would be a lot that would have to go right in order for this to happen. My main point was that this is a possible move for Stan if he really is on the hot seat. Which he should be. Upper management will not be too keen on missing the playoffs by a wide margin after 2 straight first round losses. I think he swings big and this is really the only big swing he can make in the FA market. Is there really any UFA d-men you would want to sign long term?
