Nah the Caps are just going to have a John Carlson problem in years 6, 7, and 8 of the deal.

Carlson will look north of 16 mill to max 19 mill. He is a beast this season and I bet Montreal will take him for 19 mill as they are contending. Ovechkin for Nylander how does that sound. Yeah its bad therefore dont resign Carlson, my coilers need his ban

How so? He is one of my Norris choice this year. I'd take him over Burns who signed the same contract but at an older age.

Oh San Jose will have a Brent Burns problem in those later years too, don't you worry smile

It's a question of whether or not the wheels will be there in those final years, and a cap hit on a very aged defenseman that high is no bueno. If it's structured so that he has low salary in the last few years, budget teams could take him off the Caps' hands. Still, an $8M cap hit on a 35-36y/o is risky business.

Yeah i seriously doubt that the Caps can afford to give John Carlson 8 years $64 million, It's already been reported that they can't afford to give him more then $6.5 million per long term.

Well according to capfriendly they certainly can, maybe 8m is a bit much and Carlson will take an hometown discount for the extra year so maybe make it 7-ish.
