I have a few tweaks to make.
1) Carrick and Borgman are not worth that much.
2) use a younger guy in Komarov spot and let him go.
3) keep Gardiner he is a good to 4 guy who is still young and has upside left he has show I think.

I'm actually gonna disagree, carrick has worth, the poor guy is stuck behind bablok Hainsey and zaitsev. he has a great offensive upside and isn't stupid, if we let this guy replace zaity or polak for a full year we would see a pretty good side. Borgman also, hes up there, if we lose dermott rielly or gardiner... who would choose, rosen who struggled in NHL or borgman who played half the season until dermott was called up and was too good.

signing Carlson I get it, but signing JVR too, that's bad because guys like marner and Matthews are there too. Gardiner would have to go which is ok, we got borgman and dermott could fill that last spot in. JVR, the only way to keep him is if we sign for 1 year. it wont matter but you wont get Carlson. you completely underated leivo and martin, leave leivo hes fine. trade martin for maybe a 4th pick, I'm no expert on that. I'm telling you hyman will never leave Matthews side unless hes hurt, johnsson may be on the 2nd line with possibly kadri and brown or marner depending if we put nylander to 3rd line center or not. grundstrom probably wont make the team next year, maybe 2 years from now but not next year, and if he did he wouldn't be a 3rd liner.

JVR and marner make up one powerplay. Jvr is the whole 3rd line. I'll fix the martin trade.

Sorry, there is absolutely no logic that San Jose takes Marleau back "so he can retire there". SJ didn't offer Marleau a three year deal for reason, they didn't want a 6 million cap hit in 2019/20. Gardiner doesn't sign a UFA contract just so he can be traded to an out of the playoff team. Same reason the Isles don't make the team. They just sign an UFA and keep their pick.

Looks like a good team; I don't know what everyone's love affair is with Carrick, he's a good depth defenseman but nothing more. To sign JVR they'd definately would have to part ways with Gardiner. I personally wouldn't keep JVR long term; the Leafs can and should invest their money elsewhere. This year is a career year for JVR; don't see him passing 35 goals again.

This is 2 years from now and I think he could be 3rd line...

4 years straight Leivo can't crack anyone's lineup. Yet somehow every game he plays he sees PP time...
