Hoffman Trade

Created by: yes
Team: 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 25, 2018
Published: Mar. 25, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
At first this might look like a huge overpayment for Hoffman but firstly, the Senators are retaining almost 50% of his salary so that’s atleast costing the 5th, Robinson - who is a decent AHL player, Luke Green is a decent prospect but not great, Harkins is also a decent prospect but is probably 3-4 years away from the taste of the NHL. The 1st kinda feels necessary for a player like Hoffman and Matthias is in there so cap works out and Pyatt is also for center depth for Winnipeg.

NOTE: This is without the cap increastion, I didn’t wanna go through the hassle of signing everyone and Enstrom may get the boot to FA + Cap Increase, and now Winnipeg has tons of cap for next season.

overpayment? that seems like an underpayment for hoffman to me...

late 1st round pick
career AHLer
2 prospects that are nothing special - future depth roles in the NHL if theyre lucky
washed up NHL player
5th round pick

you expect that package to get you a top 6 (arguably 1st line) forward on a great contract (+ a depth forward)? and you want ottawa to retain $2 million?

no way

I’m gonna be honest at first the trade was...

1st, 3rd, Sumi, Green and Matthias for Hoffman but then I felt was being bias considering I’m a sens fan but I’ll make sure I’ll make changes when I make a v2 of Trade.

His price is probably a really good prospect and a 2nd and a decent roster player for cap reasons. Something like Kyrou+2nd+ or Sanheim+2nd+

Something along those lines. Maybe a late 1st instead of the 2nd if it's before the draft. Ottawa trading their 1st before they know their draft position should be a lesson for every other team. Don't do it!

Anyways yeah that's about the value lol

to make this realistic, you should make a 2018/19 roster and see how the cap is especially with the Trouba and Hellebuyck signings.
